Highlights
  • Gran Turismo Sport will lack dynamic weather - a feature in prior games.
  • The game has what appears to be a curtailed single-player mode.
  • This glaring lack of content is reminiscent of Street Fighter V.

Hot on the heels of developer Polyphony Digital announcing that we will see Gran Turismo Sport available this year, comes the obligatory trickle of information regarding its content and features. And for the developer and Sony's sake, it appears that they're banking on us looking at pretty trailers and little else. Unless of course, you're GTPlanet - an online community dedicated to the seminal racing series.

In an interview with Gran Turismo Sport Director Kazunori Yamauchi, it was discovered that dynamic weather and time - seen in previous games albeit for specific tracks will not be present.

"We opted to not have the transitions in the race this time in order to raise the framerate and the quality of the image during the race," said Yamauchi. "So the user will be able to set that before they enter the race. So you'll still be able to have night races, morning, races at dawn, dusk, and so on."

In addition to this, members of GT Planet have discovered information which implies that the game will not have any traditional offline modes. If the slides from Polyphony Digital's presentation ring true, you can expect no traditional offline career mode. Rather a host of tutorials, a barebones arcade mode, and videos instead.

Combined with early previews calling the game out on its lacklustre visuals, Gran Turismo Sport doesn't exactly look to be inline with its mainline entries such as Gran Turismo 6. Rather, it appears to be similar to the series' Prologue variants except at full price.

Considering that the last game to try this threadbare approach to content was Street Fighter V - which resulted it in getting an extremely mixed critical response and not meeting Capcom's sales targets, it will be interesting to see if Sony lets Gran Turismo Sport launch in this condition.

November 15 this year is when the public will get its first taste of Gran Turismo Sport for the PS4 in Asia, Japan, and the US. Europe will be able to play it from November 16 while the UK has to wait until November 18.

For Sony, India falls under its European release schedule, which should see the game available in the country from November 16. As for the price, it will retail for $59.99 or its equivalent in respective territories. What this means is, gamers in India will pay Rs. 3,999 which is what Sony prices its first-party exclusives such as Uncharted 4 and Bloodborne for in the nation.
