Following a period of long silence, Hideo Kojima announced on Wednesday that he would be going his own way, and his first game would be console exclusive to the PS4. And now, more news has trickled out of the new studio - Kojima Productions - and the makers of PlayStation, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE).

After spending close to three decades at Konami, Hideo Kojima left the video-game enterprise in October this year, as reported by The New Yorker. Konami later claimed that he was only on vacation, and was still their employee.

On the back of much speculation and a legally-binding no show at The Game Awards in Los Angeles two weeks ago, Sony took to YouTube on Tuesday to report on Kojima's collaboration with PlayStation for his new title.

Based out of his home country of Japan, their first production will be an exclusive for Sony's gaming console, the PlayStation 4. In a Q&A posted on Medium and later taken down, SCE revealed that the title would eventually make its way to the PC.

Although some fans are bound to be disappointed, Kojima will work to build a new title from scratch as rights to Metal Gear and Silent Hill are held by Konami.

"I will be taking on a new challenge by establishing my own independent studio, and I am thrilled to be able to embark on this journey with PlayStation, who I have continued to work with all these past years," Kojima said in Sony's statement. He hopes that the game will be its own "compelling franchise", although Sony refused to comment on future titles for now.

Andrew House, president and CEO of SCE, said as much and welcomed Kojima to the PlayStation family. "Hideo Kojima has been a huge part of [PlayStation] history, and we are therefore delighted that he has chosen to bring his brand new project to life in partnership with PlayStation," he said.
