Highlights
  • It appears that the frame rate in Mafia 3 for PC can't go above 30fps
  • The news comes via sites already playing the game on PC
  • Mafia 3 is available from October 7

Mafia 3 is out from October 7 for the PC, PS4, Xbox One, and soon PS4 Pro. However it seems that the PC version is subject to being locked at 30 frames per second. PC Gamer received its code for the game today and noticed this glaring issue.

"We received Mafia 3 code this afternoon, and I've started work on the review. But I noticed that the controls felt kinda sluggish, before realising that, if my Fraps readings (and my eyes) are correct, the game is locked to 30fps," wrote PC Gamer's Andy Kelly. You could assume that this could be due to the PC being used not meeting the game's requirements but that's far from the case.

"I thought maybe my PC just couldn't handle it, so I shifted down 720p and the lowest graphics settings, but it was still locked to 30. I'm running a GTX 970, an i5-6600K overclocked to 4.5GHz, and 16GB of RAM, which should be more than enough. And it still happens when I disable the in-game vsync option."

At the moment it is unknown if this is something that could be fixed with a day one patch or rectified with an update from Nvidia. Right now though, it's a tad troubling to see a potentially subpar release of Mafia 3 on the PC, more so given that most of 2K's PC games have been solid - barring the recent BioShock: The Collection of course.

Hopefully this gets rectified soon. More so considering that developer Hangar 13 plans to support iterative consoles such as the PS4 Pro.

“I’m always excited about new technology because it means we can push our art even further,” Studio Head Haden Blackman said to Gadgets 360. “For the PS4 Pro specifically, we’ll add some graphics upgrades.”
