MapmyIndia Opens Its Data to Developers via APIs

MapmyIndia, one of India's leading providers for map data and mapping solutions, has announced the public launch of its Map API platform for software developers and enterprises.

MapmyIndia's API platform consists of individual APIs for interactive mapping and visualisation of location-based data, geocoding (location search), reverse geocoding (address look-up), routing (driving directions), and other location-based analytics such as distance matrix (distance from multiple locations). The APIs are REST (HTTP/JSON) as well as JavaScript-based.

The details of the various APIs are as follows:

Interactive Map: The Maps JavaScript API is a set of programming interfaces that enables developers to build web or mobile browser applications using feature rich, interactive MapmyIndia Maps. Geocoding: A REST API that finds the most accurate latitude longitude combination for a provided address Reverse Geocoding: A REST API that finds the nearest street-level address for a provided latitude longitude combination Routing: A REST API that calculates up to three routes between provided start and end locations provided as latitude longitude points. You can also provide up to 50 via points. The route information consists of a detailed textual turn-by-turn description of the route along with the data required to draw the route on MapmyIndia Maps Distance: A REST API that provides driving distance and time from a given center point to any number of points. Note that no route information is provided in this API Map Image: A REST API that provides map images (PNG) of size 256x256 and 512x512 (for high DPI screens, like retina display) for a given latitude longitude point and zoom level.
