Mozilla today announced via a blog post, the launch of a new initiative titled 'Webmaker' that will help users learn how to create websites.

Speaking on the launch, Mozilla's Executive Director, Mark Surman, said, "The web is becoming the world's second language, and a vital 21st century skill - as important as reading, writing and arithmetic. It's crucial that we give people the skills they need to understand, shape and actively participate in that world, instead of just passively consuming it. That maker spirit and open ethos is vital to Mozilla, our partners, and the web."

The site which will officially launch on June 6, will offer various tools and projects to users with the opportunity to experience how to write code along with the know-hows of their usage.

To jumpstart the program, Mozilla is inviting people to a Summer Code Party in an attempt to encourage volunteers to host local Webmaker events and teach-ins worldwide. Mozilla is offering projects and kits for everyone to get involved during the 'Global weekend of Code' beginning June 23. The Summer Code Party has roped in partners such as SoundClound, Tumblr and Creative Commons to name a few.
