Software services giant Infosys is focusing on verticals like healthcare, manufacturing and automobile to drive its engineering services business, a top official said on Tuesday.

"Engineering services are a focal point for our strategy in pushing innovation into the market place, and we are making all necessary investments in infrastructure and manpower that is required to stay ahead of the curve,"Practice Manager (Infosys Engineering Services) Srinivasa Rao Patnala told PTI.

The six service lines that Infosys is focusing on include manufacturing, retail, consumer packaged goods, logistics, lifescience, energy, communications, financial services and insurance, he said.

Engineering services accounted for 3.3 percent of the company's revenues for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2013.

It has over 8,000 people working for the engineering services.

According to industry body NASSCOM, Indian offshore engineering research and development (ER&D) services market is expected to reach $37-45 billion and create over one million jobs by 2020.

The engineering design and products development segments generated export revenues of $10 billion in FY2012, growing by about 14 percent, driven by increasing use of electronics, fuel efficiency norms, convergence of local markets and localised products.

Meanwhile, Infosys said it recently won the 2013 Simulating Reality contest, organised by MSC Software for its simulation solutions.

The Infosys team was awarded for developing an active 3D model that simulates the working of the human heart.

It provided medical professionals and scientists with a near real life scenario to improve understanding of the complexities of human heart disorders.
