  • Google's own 2013 Chromebook Pixel not listed.
  • Support to arrive on stable channel sometime in September or October.

Google announced at its I/O developers meet that Chromebooks are getting Android apps support. This was welcomed by all users, as the addition of Google Play to Chrome OS will bring much more utility to the platform. And for all those old Chromebook users, wondering if they will get the support, Google has listed all the Chromebook and Chrome OS devices that will get access to Android apps when the stable new version of the OS is rolled out eventually.

The search giant will begin supporting Android apps on Chrome OS v53 M53 developer channel for touch-enabled Chrome OS computers in early June. The Acer Chromebook R11, Asus Chromebook Flip, and Google's 2015 Chromebook Pixel will be able to test this feature first. The company states that the support should hit the stable channel by September or October. In the meanwhile, almost 50 Chromebooks have been listed to get Android support over the rest of the year. Several Chromebooks from Samsung, Lenovo, Asus, Acer, Toshiba, and HP have been listed.

However, Google's own 2013 Chromebook Pixel has not been listed. There's no clear reason for as to why these Chromebooks won't get support, but PC World speculates that Android app support requires an upgrade of the Linux kernel, something that takes a lot of work,

With Chromebook users getting access to Andrioid apps, they will be able to download apps from Google Play and experience them on their devices. This will result in the introduction of Skype, Games, Photo Editing apps, Microsoft Office, and much more on compatible laptops.

You can find the full list of compatible Chromebooks and Chrome OS machines on the Google support page.
