As flagship smartphone technology trickles down to the lower rungs of the market, entry-level phones aren’t as basic as they used to be. Fingerprint sensors and speedy processors are now pretty easy to find in phones under the Rs. 10,000 mark.

Meizu M5 Summary

The Meizu M5 is a budget offering priced under Rs. 10,000. It has a comfortable candybar design with good ergonomics and decent build quality. The 5.2-inch display has a HD resolution only and colours are a bit dull, however, viewing angles are decent and the brightness is quite high. The phone is powered by a MediaTek MT6750 octa-core SoC, with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. It’s expandable but only after sacrificing the second SIM. Performance is decent although we did encounter some intermittent lag. Flyme OS is based on Android Mashmallow. 4G works well but there isn’t support for VoLTE. The rear and front cameras produce passable pictures during the day but really struggle in low light. Battery life is good but not could have been better.
