After being spotted in a couple of images last week, Google's much-anticipated next Nexus smartphone, expected to be called the Nexus 6 or Nexus X, has now been allegedly spotted in Geekbench benchmark test results.

First spotted by Phonearena, the Geekbench 2 benchmark test results purportedly show the yet-to-be-announced 'Nexus X "Shamu"', thought to be the codename of the next Nexus smartphone, pitted against its competitors such as iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy S5, LG G3, HTC One (M8), Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and iPhone 5s.

As per the test results, the alleged Nexus 6 is seen scoring impressively compared to all the high-end Android flagships. However, the rumoured next Nexus smartphone is seen scoring less (1040) than the new iPhone 6 (1630) and iPhone 5s (1323) in the Geekbench 3.2 single-core test.

In the Geekbench 3.2 multi-core tests, the 'Nexus X "Shamu"' aka Nexus 6 appears to be the fastest smartphone leaving behind phones such as iPhone 6, Galaxy S5, and HTC One (M8) with a score of 3199. What's more is that the closest competitor to the alleged Nexus 6 is last year's Galaxy Note 3, which scored 2998.

Phonearena points out that early Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Geekbench results are comparable to the Nexus X "Shamu" aka Nexus 6.

The purported Geekbench listing also lists some of the details about the Nexus 6 such as Android L OS, quad-core Qualcomm chipset clocked at 2.65GHz, and 3GB of RAM (2970MB).

Some of the purported specifications of the Nexus 6 aka Nexus X include a 5.9-inch QHD display offering a pixel density of 496ppi, a 13-megapixel rear camera with OIS with a "new dual-flash ring configuration," a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and a larger than 3200mAh battery. The smartphone is expected to feature a Snapdragon 805 processor alongside 3GB of RAM.

Reports have for a while indicated that Google is partnering with Motorola for the next Nexus smartphone, and recent reports indicate it may be released in mid-October (October 15 or 16).

In addition to the Nexus 6 aka Nexus X, Google is also expected to announce the next Nexus tablet believed to be manufactured by HTC - the rumoured Nexus 9 that was spotted at FCC on Monday, and also pictured by a tipster - along with the general release of Android L.
