Android manufacturers are gearing up for the release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow software update to their respective devices. Two weeks after Google released the new version of its mobile operating system to Nexus smartphones, OEMs have started to let their users know when their devices will receive the update. Sony and Huawei recently shared some information about the rollout of the update.

Huawei has revealed its Android 6.0 Marshmallow roadmap for its handsets, with the first updates due to start rolling out in November. The Chinese telecommunications giant made the announcements on its Weibo and Emotion UI pages.

The company said the Ascend P8, Ascend P8max, Mate S, Mate 7, Ascend G7, Ascend G7 Plus, and Ascend G8 smartphones will receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. As for its Honor brand of smartphones, Huawei said the Honor 7, Honor 7i, Honor 6 Plus, Honor 6, MediaPad X2, Honor 4X, and Honor 4C are eligible to be upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Do note that the list is actually for Chinese variants of the aforementioned handsets, so the global rollout plan for them could vary.

Sony had already detailed its Android 6.0 Marshmallow update rollout roadmap earlier this month. On the list however, some devices hadn't yet received the latest version of Android Lollipop (v5.1.1). Understandably, users with those devices are worried when and if the company will release the latest update.

If you were in the same pool, it's time you stopped worrying. Sony has updated its support website to note that the Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia C4, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua, and Xperia M5 will skip the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop software update and jump directly to Android 6.0 by the end of this year.

While it seems like a reasonable decision for Sony, as it would have taken more effort to bring to separate builds, it is alarming users of the aforementioned devices will not receive the accompanying security updates and bug fixes that Android 5.1.1 primarily brings over Android 5.0 until the Android 6.0 Marshmallow rollout sometime at the end of this year. In the past few months we've seen a number of security flaws in Android that is putting millions of devices at risk, enough that Google and major OEMs have vowed monthly security updates for the platform.
