iOS 6's DND reportedly malfunctions on New Year's Eve; Apple touts it in new ad very next day

You could't make up this sequence of events if you tried. First, iOS 6's 'Do Not Disturb' feature, which basically allows a user to silent all calls, messages and notifications, reportedly went kaput for many users on New Year's Eve. Unsuspecting iOS 6 users found the scheduling of DND to be completely off the track. A few of them found DND running on the phone without being switched by the user, while it wouldn't shut off for others.

Now if that was bad enough, here's what happened next.

New Year's day, Apple released a new iPhone 5 titled 'Dream' focusing on the DND feature. The ad features popular tennis players Williams sisters, Venus and Serena, and was posted on Apple's YouTube channel with the caption "Just turn on Do Not Disturb and your iPhone 5 knows not to ring, unless it's a call you really want." Hilarious, isn't it?

While we can see the funny side of this, those who were left frustrated would be hoping that Apple will identify what went wrong and fix the problem.

This is not the first time that alarm-related issues have cropped up in iOS. Earlier, we saw a bug that causes alarms to go off incorrectly during the daylight saving time switch. Thanks to this bug, if you want to snooze-off your alarm, the alarm may ring an hour later than what it was set to. There have been reports of alarm-related troubles around the new year earlier as well.

As you would expect, there's no official word from Apple on the problem. But you can enjoy this rather ill-timed ad.
