The Queen of England just tweeted for the first time from the official @BritishMonarchy account. The account was previous managed by palace officials, but this is the first time that the Queen has sent a tweet herself. Here's the tweet, in case you missed it:
Of course, she's not the only famous world leader to use Twitter, and we were curious as to how some of the other leading politicians, spiritual leaders and rulers around the world use the social network. Here are some of the first tweets of different leaders:
Barack Obama
The American President't first tweet has a strong anti-war message that he posted back in 2007, when he was still a United States Senator.
Narendra Modi
The now Indian Prime Minister's first tweet was written in the first person and it's just a quick update to tell his followers where he'll be.
The Dalai Lama
The first tweet of the Dalai Lama was clearly posted on his behalf, and much like Modi's first tweet, this one deals with his appearance schedule.
Pope Francis
The current Pope's first tweet came soon after he was elected to the office, and is a simple statement asking his followers to continue to pray for him.
Bill Clinton
The former President of the United States clearly has a sense of humour as this tweet from 2013 proves. He was on an episode of the Colbert Report, and he clearly enjoyed his time there enough to make his first tweet about it.
