Twitter has finally started including older tweets in search results, company has revealed via a blog post.

Until now, Twitter search has been infamous for showing only the most recent tweets, going back around a week, making it near impossible to find older stuff without resorting to third-party tools. Now, the company says it has "developed a way to include older Tweets, so you can see content that goes beyond the more recent Tweets".

However, it is not clear from the blog post that tweets going how far back to the past are included in the search results. The company admitted that the tweets shown will be a tiny fraction of all tweets posted till date, so we know it's not the entire archive. The company will be using various types of engagements like favourites, retweets and clicks, to determine which tweets show up in search results. It also mentioned that it'll be working towards increasing the percentage of tweets that show up in search results as we go along.

The updates search will be rolled out over the next few days.

The move is the latest in Twitter opening up access to the old tweets. In December, it started offering select users the ability to download their entire Twitter archive. Since then, the company has started rolling out the option to other users, though it had revealed it may be "several months" before all users receive this option.

Recently, the company redesigned its apps for iOS and Android to makes it easier to search and discover tweets.
