The delightful image that you carefully picked to put as the background of your Twitter page is no longer there. The microblogging website has quietly pulled the background image from everyone's profile on the Web version of Twitter.

While the company hasn't officially announced the science or even any illogical reason behind this move, there seems to be a simple explanation for all of this. The company perhaps wants to shower your Twitter page with more ads.

It's no secret that Twitter isn't doing well financially. It's under a lot of pressure from its investors and partner advertisers. Over the past few months, we've seen it experiment with plenty of new things, and it's possible the company has figured shoving ads down everyone's page is one of possible ideas.

It's not a glitch, by the way. In a statement to TechCrunch, the company confirmed that it has indeed pulled the background image. "We're removing background images from the home and notifications timelines on Web for all users. Now, background images are only available where logged-in users will see them publicly."

People aren't welcoming this change with open arms, of course. While nobody has been reported to take this matter on the streets yet, several people have tweeted their disapproval.
