Croma 3G tablet coming soon for Rs. 9,990

Tata group firm Infiniti Retail, which runs 'Croma' chain of consumer electronics and durables stores, is planning to expand its range of private label items by introducing 3G-enabled tablet within next two weeks and high-end refrigerators by Diwali this year.

The company has already started offering affordable range of Croma-branded smartphones, which are sourced from China.

"We are going to expand our offering in the private label segment by rolling out more products in coming days. We will introduce 3G tablet in the next 1-2 weeks," Infiniti Retail Managing Director and CEO Ajit Joshi told PTI.

The company will source the tablets from China and Taiwan and they will be priced at Rs. 9,990, he added.

Infiniti Retail at present sells Croma-branded 2G tablets, priced at Rs. 6,990.

"We will also introduce high-end refrigerators under our private label. These will hit the market around Diwali," Joshi said without sharing the possible price of the product.

Talking about its smartphones, Joshi said "We started with a consignment of 1,000 phones and we are getting very good response. Now we have placed orders for two more consignments from China."

The company is selling the 'Croma' smartphones priced between Rs. 8,990 and Rs. 10,990.

"Our idea is to add more smartphone models, which will be loaded with various features. The smartphones of the renowned brands are targetted at the upper segment of the society.

However, the rest of people also have similar aspirations for good product and we will try to address that," he said.

The company has also launched various types of washing machines under the 'Croma' brand, he added.

When asked how much revenue the company is looking at during this fiscal from its private labels, Joshi said "We are targetting to achieve Rs. 200 crore in 2013-14."

The private labels business clocked a sales turnover of Rs. 130 crore in last fiscal against a target of Rs. 180 crore, he added.

Commenting on the sourcing for private labels, he said: "At present 60 percent are from India."
