While the world still awaits official confirmation on the availability of Google glass, Epson has announced the India launch of its own version of wearable computing in the form of the Epson Moverio BT-100. The product is priced at Rs. 42,900 and will be available in major retail outlets in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore & Hyderabad.

The Epson Moverio BT-100 is powered by Android 2.2 and comes with a headset that uses micro-projection technology and an Android-powered media player and controller.

Users can stream videos from YouTube or Vimeo and watch content in 2D and 3D (in side-by-side format), surf the web, browse apps and also play games with the media player and controller, that is also Wi-Fi enabled.

Users can also enjoy downloaded digital content on a large virtual 80-inch perceived screen projected from 5 meters away. The headset features advanced see-through lenses that keep you connected with your surroundings and online activities at the same time. It promises a larger than life experience of movies and images with crystal clarity.

The media player and controller has a touch-enabled track pad and navigational buttons to enable easy interaction of content. It includes flash support and comes with 1GB internal storage. It also features a built-in card slot which supports expansion up to 32GB.

Epson even bundles in a 4GB microSD card to store media as MP4 files. The company has also provided detachable Dolby Mobile stereo sound earphones for listening to audio. The Epson Moverio BT-100 promises up to 6 hours of rechargeable battery life.

Speaking at the launch Mr. Samba Moorthy, Director, Sales & Marketing said "Like pioneering personal entertainment products such as the Sony Walkman or Apple iPod, the Epson Moverio BT-100 see-through mobile viewer is poised to significantly change the way people experience, and even interact with content for personal enjoyment. One day, we believe such viewers will be common; and we're proud to be one of the pioneers. It will also provide a new way for the service industry to add value to their products. So we intend to market its unique capability to schools, aviation and the travel industry, as well as high-end service providers such as nail parlours or private dental clinics; to give their customers a tailor-made entertainment experience."
