The Chinese tech conglomerate Xiaomi has launched a new speaker on Tuesday, called Mi Wi-Fi Speaker or Mi Internet Speaker. As the name suggests, the speaker uses the Internet to play songs and other music directly. Xiaomi is not new to the audio device industry and the Mi Wi-Fi Speaker may come as a boon for audio enthusiasts who prefer Internet-driven music. Listed on company site is priced at CNY 399 (roughly Rs. 4,000) and will start selling from 10am CST on Friday in China.

The Xiaomi Mi Wi-Fi Speaker aka Mi Internet Speaker sports a 4-speaker layout with two 2.5-inch sub-woofers for extra bass, and two '20-core' tweeters, along with vented bass-duct technology. The speaker is quite large at 90x95x282mm, and weighs in at 1.622kg. It is powered by an Amlogc 8726M3 Cortex A9 processor with connectivity via Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth v4.1.

If you happen to have no Internet and want to listen to music through the speakers, the Xiaomi Mi Wi-Fi Speaker comes with 8GB of inbuilt storage, which will be used to store the music offline. There is also an USB 2.0 port and an auxiliary 3.5mm audio input jack. It also supports DLNA for compatible devices. Xiaomi says the Mi Wi-Fi Speaker can search songs from a database of over 20 million tracks, as the company has partnered with major streaming services in the country. It can also look up to more than 1,500 radio stations of the mainland China. People who love listening to audiobooks shouldn't fret either as the speakers can access about 200,000 storytelling stations and a database of 120 million audiobooks.

The Xiaomi Mi Wi-Fi speaker can be controlled via voice (using the CH button on top), apart from the physical buttons on top, and the Mi Home App as well. The Internet speaker can also wake you up as it can also function as an alarm clock. It supports Hi-Fi 24bit/192kHz audio, and has a frequency range of 60-25kHz.

While almost all the Bluetooth speakers are going cordless with a battery already inside them, Xiaomi's Internet speaker lacks the battery and requires to be plugged via the power cord.
