Vivo Z5 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 processor. It comes with 6GB of RAM. The Vivo Z5 runs Android 9 Pie and is powered by a 4500mAh battery. The Vivo Z5 supports proprietary fast charging.

As far as the cameras are concerned, the Vivo Z5 on the rear packs a 48-megapixel (f/1.79) primary camera; an 8-megapixel (f/2.2) camera, and a 2-megapixel (f/2.4) camera. The rear camera setup has autofocus. It sports a 32-megapixel camera on the front for selfies with an f/2.0 aperture.

The Vivo Z5 runs Funtouch OS 9.1 is based on Android 9 Pie and packs 64GB of inbuilt storage. The Vivo Z5 is a dual-SIM (GSM and GSM) mobile that accepts Nano-SIM and Nano-SIM cards. The Vivo Z5 measures 159.53 x 75.23 x 8.13mm (height x width x thickness) and weighs 187.00 grams. It was launched in Bamboo Forest Night, Holographic illusion, and Aurora illusion colours.

Connectivity options on the Vivo Z5 include Wi-Fi, GPS, USB Type-C, Micro-USB, 3G, and 4G (with support for Band 40 used by some LTE networks in India). Sensors on the phone include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, compass/ magnetometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor, and fingerprint sensor. The Vivo Z5 supports face unlock.
