Google has updated its Docs, Sheets, and Slide apps for Android, letting users now work on Google and non-Google files much more easily.

As a part of the latest update, Android users will now be able to edit document, spreadsheet, and presentation titles directly from the overflow menu, which is placed on the top right corner of the app. The option also lets users rename the files much easily than before. Previously, users would could only change the file name by saving it. Now on the overflow menu they would just have to tap on the name of the file shown on top and rename it in the new dialogue box.

Inside the updated Google Slides app, users can customise the layout of an existing slide using several predefined layouts. This is expected to let users update their presentations while on-the-move effectively. The firm in its blog post on Thursday added that people would also be able to reply to comments when working under the Office Compatibility Mode inside the Docs app. Also, the mode will show suggestions and comments under the comments panel in the order they are made instead of showing them as all comments first and all suggestions second.

The updated Google Docs, Google Slides and Google Sheets apps were at the time of writing not yet available to download from Google Play India, but the Mountain View giant says the new apps will be rolled out gradually, taking at least 3 days in most regions. The firm also gave no details as to when the iOS users would get the same features.

Google last month updated its Google Drive application with new features and changes in the user interface. The update adds a couple of actions to the multiple-selection interface and the ability to download and send multiple files in the background simultaneously. The sharing interface of Google Drive has also been changed. In May, the search giant expanded the OCR capabilities within Google Drive by adding support for over 200 languages.
