  • It also allows you to uninstall your unused apps

Google has silently started testing a new app called "Files Go" to provide Android users with a unified solution for all their storage management and wireless file transfer requirements. The app was briefly listed as an unreleased app on Google Play, with users required to enter an early access programme for testing. The app has since been pulled, but can be sideloaded as an APK file.

As its name suggests, the Files Go app is appeared to be a part of the family that already has YouTube Go and Android Go as the two major solutions for emerging markets. Android Police notes that Google ran an early access programme to pilot the app on specific devices.

Nevertheless, a downloadable APK file of the Files Go app is available through APK Mirror to reveal its features. You can install the app through the available file on any of your devices running Android 5.0 and above.

The Files Go app has a convenient interface that comes with two tabs -- Storage and Files. The originally active Storage tab shows you the free space available on your device alongside sporting feature cards that give you access to clean app cache, remove recorded media, and free up the storage by removing large and downloaded files. The Files tab, on the other hand, works just as a simple file management app and lists sources such as Downloads, Received files, Images, Videos, and Documents.

Alongside the simple two-tab experience, the Files Go app has the integrated file transfer feature that allows you to send or receive files wirelessly. The feature uses Bluetooth connectivity of your device to enable wireless transfer - without requiring an active data connection. Similar to popular file sharing apps such as Shareit and Xender, Google's app creates your profile to help you send large-sized files with your nearby contacts at a fast pace.

Besides, the Files Go app lists all the apps that are unused on your device from the last four weeks. This makes it easier to free up some space by uninstalling those apps right from the Google solution.

The APK file of the Files Go app is around 5.41MB in size, lower than the size of the Shareit and Xender installation packages. Google would manage to even shrink the app at the time of its public release. But importantly, the official release is yet to be announced.
