In August, Instagram launched Stories - a Snapchat-like feature that lets you post short videos or photos that last no more than 24 hours. The feature also lets users type or draw on the images and videos. Now, Instagram has brought Stories to the Explore tab with a new update in an attempt to increase their reach.

The Explore section on Instagram shows you popular photos and videos from around the world based on your interests. Until now, only Stories uploaded by those you follow were only visible at the top of the Home section. But with the new update, users will be able to view popular Stories from around the world.

In a blog post, Instagram says, "More than 100 million people visit Explore every day to discover photos and videos from people they don't yet follow. The new suggested stories section highlights the most interesting Stories from across Instagram's vast global community."

With Stories, Instagram is trying to compete directly with Snapchat. While Snapchat allows users to save their time-bound posts, Instagram Stories as of now do not. With Stories on Explore, Instagram has an advantage over Snapchat with the later still struggling when it comes to discovery.

Users can upload a story by tapping on the plus icon on the top left corner of the screen, or slide their finger from left to right to open the camera. After taking a picture or recording a video, Instagram provides editing tools that allow you to write or doodle on the image or video. The story disappears 24 hours after uploading.

Instagram Stories allows users to post endless daily highlights and not worry about cluttering your account for eternity. It's part of the company's attempt to keep users engaged by getting them to share more photos and videos.

The new update has already begun rolling out globally for iOS, Android, and Windows users.
