Vine app for Android updated with front-facing camera support
Twitter had rolled out Vine app for Android earlier this month. However, this app had a major drawback as it could not access the front-facing camera of an Android smartphone. However, the iOS version of the Vine app came with front camera support from the very start.

The micro-blogging website has now addressed this issue with an update in the form of Vine for Android version 1.2.0. The other major improvements that this update has brought are:

  • New upload manager for un-submitted posts
  • Improvements to settings
  • Improvements to camera loading time and support for more devices
  • Speed improvements overall
  • Bug fixes and UI improvements

The biggest improvement in speeds seems to be in the camera, which now loads faster than before.

Twitter had launched Vine app for iOS in January 2013. Vine lets users record six-second video clips, which can then be seamlessly embedded within the tweets.

The Android version of Vine had got a minor update last week as well. This update added search, mentions, hashtags, and Facebook-sharing.

On June 20, Vine co-founders Dom Hofman and Rus Yusupov had posted videos to give a glimpse of changes that might be introduced in the near future. Based on one of these Vine videos, it appears that the company is looking at revamping the design. The new design will let users see larger, full-screen videos.

Another interesting addition that may come with future Vine updates is the option to reuse older video clips. Currently, users need to capture a fresh video clip every time they are looking to upload something to Vine.

Recently, Facebook added Vine-like features to its popular photo-sharing app Instagram. Instead of restricting users to 6 seconds, like Vine does, Instagram lets users share 15-second videos.
