I've had this laptop for about a month now and I am impressed. I was looking for a laptop for college that would last, had great battery life, had better specs than the average laptop, and was upgradable to be at least somewhat future-proof. This laptop fits all of that and more.Let me start out with the battery life. I'm honestly not sure how many hours this thing will last because I just can't kill it, no matter how hard I try. I have spent at least 6 hours on this in one day and I still haven't seen it drop below 50%. I charge it at night and I literally don't have to even think about battery life for an entire day (or more likely 2-3 if I didn't charge it). As far as I'm concerned, the price is justified for this alone. However, that's just the beginning. ASUS has built a machine that measures up to that standard in almost every other department, as well. The display is bright, clear, and a joy to look at. Personally, I really like the size of it. It's not too big and the computer is compact and light as a result (and it likely helps the battery life on top of it). Still, I should note that the viewing angles are not great. The screen does have to be at the right angle relative to you or things start to get washed out and unreadable (which could actually be a good thing for security and privacy if that concerns you). That's not to say it makes the computer difficult to use; on the contrary, the only thing it seems to affect is using it in bright sunlight, as sun does make it a little difficult to use.The keyboard is nice and the buttons clicky. It did take me a little time to get used to typing on it, but I get better all the time. A minor gripe is the touchpad. It's not the best. It has a plasticy feel to it that your finger kind of drags against, as opposed to something like glass that would feel completely smooth and easy to use. Additionally, it just feels a little odd and difficult to use. They did, however, just release an update of some sort that seems to have improved things (although it's hard to say whether I'm just imagining the improvement or not). In any event, I recommend getting a wireless mouse. The speaker on board sounds great. It gets loud, and music especially just sounds so good. Oddly enough, the speaker is on the bottom of the laptop, but it sounds as if it has front-facing speakers. I have no idea how ASUS achieved this trickery, but kudos to them. No matter what surface the computer is on, it sounds like the audio is pointed right at me. Oh, and speaking of sound, the fan on this thing is oh-so quiet. I haven't had any trouble with it heating up or the fan blasting away. Slightly warm and barely audible seems to be all there is. It should be noted that I haven't done much gaming on it, however. As for the performance of this laptop, it has exceeded my expectations. The solid-state drive allows it to boot up in under 10 seconds (restarting has never been so fast) and it really makes the computer fly, in addition to the Intel Core i7 processor. How they have are managing this great of battery life with that processor is beyond me, but they are and I thank them for it. It also helps that ASUS included almost 0 bloatware, which is practically unheard of these days. This laptop is expensive, but for what you're getting, I believe it to be worth the price. The battery life alone makes this computer an absolute joy to use, but when you combine it with a stellar display, speed, a solid-state drive, a great speaker, and a compact and sturdy design, how could you possibly say no?

This thing is FAST - unlike other new laptops, it also has a direct network plug (really nice when remoting in) and lights to actually indicate drive activity (useful when something goes wrong).

  • Excellent value and quality

Excellent case and specs. Looks very attractive. It was easy to set up and its speed is great. Still can't believe the price for an i7 processor and SSD size. Very good for business or personal use. Highly recommend without hesitation.

  • Works as Intended
Velbeth L Reyes (Mar 29, 2018) on Amazon
It?s great for its price! Future endurance in any specs. Works great and fast turn on. Bought for college to do multiple things at once. Also bought for gaming and hold great for new and near future games. Great for multitasking. Only problem is the fingerprint. Highly unnecessary and is just an extra spec that I don?t even use. Have had for about a month or so. So far all good.

  • I really like this laptop
Lucas Falor (Oct 13, 2017) on Amazon
I really like this laptop. It's not the thinnest or lightest laptop, but it's fast and has the processing power I wanted. The keyboard is unlit, and this is probably the only real drawback to the machine from a feature standpoint. Lot's of ports for peripherals. A solid buy.

  • It is a highly capable laptop with amazing battery life
BM (Sep 20, 2017) on Amazon
I did my research on laptops around $1000, plus minus $200, and my main criteria were good ram size, dedicated graphic card, latest windows os, decent size of ssd hard drive, non-glossy screen, light weight, and very good battery life. This Asus p2440uq-xs71 was the best, in my opinion, within my search parameters. I'm not gonna repeat the specs here, but as you can see, they are really good.I've had it for couple of days now, and can say i'm very satisfied. They made a great effort in finding the right balance between powerful computing capabilities and the mobility feature. Here are my thoughts on the notebook:- The battery. it is truly amazing. Have been using at least 6 hours straight with variety of tasks, and still didn't get to 50% yet. And they did it while not throwing away the processing power.- With the i7 7th generation cpu, good ssd and all the ddr4 ram combined, this is a proper computing machine. It is noticeably fast and swift when multitasking. Probably the strongest part of the product, alongside the battery.- Because it had TN panel, rather than the IPS panel, i was little worried how the brightness and contrast would be. No worries, the screen is good. Of course not as good as IPS screens, but better than other TN panels used out there. Plus IPS screens are power hogs.- No backlit keyboard. I can understand that the manufacturer didn't include it in order to improve battery life, but still it would have been nice to have this feature, just so that i have the option. Keyboard itself is very good for typing. Gotta nice feel to it.- The touchpad is perhaps lower quality than the other parts of the laptop. It could be better.- Weightwise, it is light with the battery, and can easily carry it around.Highly recommend to fellow engineers.Update:After 2 months of using, my initial opinion of the laptop hasn't changed much. Within its price range, It is powerful, considerably lightweight, decent graphics card and amazing battery. The only 2 downsides i found so far are, as mentioned above, the touchpad is not so good. It is not the hardware, but more the touchpad smart gesture driver software provided by Asus. The driver is not good at all. It seems to be common issue among other Asus laptops as well. The smart gesture driver hogs cpu when you enable its 2 finger scrolling feature. Since it is just software problem, I really hope they fix it to make this laptop as good as it should be.Another issue is also driver software related. Its sound driver sometimes stops working. Running the troubleshoot fixes it, but nonetheless, it should be better. So hardware wise, this is a very good laptop. I still highly recommend it. Hopefully the driver issues will be fixed and updated by Asus.

  • Over all I really like it. It is pretty compact
    8ball_99 (Jul 14, 2017) on Amazon
I've only had this laptop for a few days, But I figured since there isn't much information online about it I'd post a review. Over all I really like it. It is pretty compact. With it just a little over 4 pounds its lighter then going with a similar priced similar spec gaming laptop. The fingerprint scanner works great. Id say Asus line about the swipe scanner being more reliable is true. Moisture, dirt, ect, Does not effect it like a regular fingerprint reader. I've yet to have it not work. This to me is awesome cause the fingerprint reader was one of the draws to this series of laptops. 512gig ssd was also. Its quick and works well. There is also an empty 2.5 bay. So mine is at 1TB with two 512ssds. Its worth noting though on mine the empty bay was not accessible by just removing the memory access door. That just allows access to the M.2 factory ssd and the single 8gb memory stick. The other 4gb of memory is made on to the board from what I understand. I purchased planning on running it with the stock 12gb though so that isn't a problem for me. But its probably worth mentioning. The screen looks good to me and is not glossy which was something I prefer on a laptop. Keyboard and track pad both work well and are comfortable to use. SD card reader also works well. I still prefer a laptop with an optical drive. So that's another plus to me. In fact I would have liked to have had bluray. Now for the negative, It does not have USB C. I don't have a need for this right now, But i'm sure that will change sooner or later. I took the gamble that it would be later. The keyboard is not back lit. I really wish it was. I think they all should be. You can always just turn it off if you don't need/want it. If its not an option your just doing with out. This is only a Dual Core 7th gen I7. This can be both good and bad. Plus side it does have good battery life and if that's a priority then the dual core is not a negative at all. Performance wise though this is a negative. Its a solid laptop and I'd recommend it. If it had USB C, I would have given it 5 stars.

  • I like the laptop just fine
Amy (Dec 12, 2017) on Amazon
I like the laptop just fine. It's quick, battery is good, good keyboard, great specs. The big drawback for me is that it's been nearly impossible (so far) to find an extra power supply. On Asus' site, they have no part listed for this model and their universal charger has been out of stock (in addition, the universal charger lists other models, but not this one, so I'm not convinced it's a fit). There is one (off-brand) charger by a 3rd party seller here on Amazon that says it fits this model, but that seller has horrible reviews, so I can't bring myself to go that route.I got a 'universal' laptop charger from Best Buy, and not only did none of the tips supplied fit, but when I called the Insignia (Best Buy brand) customer service line - where they say they will send you a free tip if you need one that's not included, they sent me a tip that *still* doesn't fit. I bought a small laptop for the convenience of bringing it between home and work, and I'm not interested in schlepping the power supply also. Had I understood that I might not be able to get a 2nd charger (which has never been an issue with any other laptop I've owned), it would have been a dealbreaker. Still hoping to find one that works. But seriously, what was ASUS thinking? What if my cat chews through a cord?

  • Very disappointed. Other than the keyboard
Garth Scheck (Oct 5, 2017) on Amazon
The keyboard feels cheap; matter of fact, the left "ctrl" button does not work. I would return it but I bought it for school and don't have time to so. Very disappointed.Other than the keyboard, the laptop seems ok so far.

  • High spec but feels cheep and screen is dull.
    Keith L. (Jan 11, 2019) on Amazon
For something this expensive the finish is poor. The plastics feels cheap. For instance the back of the screen flexes by about 5mm the screen is pretty bad too.

  • Blue screen of death after just 7 months
Brian K. Dinicola (Aug 11, 2018) on Amazon
I bought this as a Christmas present for my wife on Dec 17, 2017. Tried to boot from a recovery DVD but get the same message that windows can not boot up to a non recoverable error. Still under warranty, but ASUS is telling me they want the right to keep any parts they replace - even the hard drive we can not currently access - without giving me a chance to recover the data. That is, they want ADVANCE agreement to keep and scrap and/or do whatever they want with the hard drive - even in situations like ours where it is clearly NOT a software problem (else the DVD boot would work). I have been holding for a supervisor for over 1/2 hour already. I would stay away ASUS. My days of buying PCs and notebooks via AMAZON and ASUS are over.

  • The fingerprint reader is garbage, and the screen is very washed out

The fingerprint reader is garbage, and the screen is very washed out. What a waste of having a dedicated graphics card.
