  • Microsoft is teasing big news at E3 2017
  • In doing so, it also showed off an image of the Xbox Scorpio
  • This could see more details about the console emerge at E3 2017

At E3 2016, Microsoft gave the first teaser of Xbox Scorpio — a souped up version of the Xbox One. The company claimed it would the most powerful console to hit the market. With E3 2017 less than three months away, gamers will get a proper reveal of the console.

“Brace for big news. #XboxE3 briefing will air Sunday, June 11 at 2 PM PT,” tweeted the official Xbox account along with an image of the console's motherboard. This works out to 3:30am IST on Monday, June 12.

This quarter the Xbox One has seen a drought of games and the cancellation of hotly anticipated action role-playing game Scalebound hasn’t helped either. Throw in a surprising amount of developer support for the PS4 Pro and Sony’s own contribution in terms of Boost Mode, it is quite possible for Microsoft to reveal the release date and price at E3 2017.

Don’t expect it to be cheap though.

With Xbox Scorpio, Microsoft Does Not Want to Turn Consoles into the Graphics Card Market

"Scorpio will be a premium console. It will cost more than S, obviously, this is how we are building it up. We have not announced the pricing yet, but want to make sure that the investment we are making in the product of Scorpio goes hand in hand with the requirement of high-end consumer and that means a higher price," said Spencer in conversation with Spanish gaming website Levelup. "There is not a single product you see and say 'this is the product that defines how you are doing in the market'. It really is the repertoire of all products with prices and when we think of Scorpio it is for a high-end consumer who demands the maximum of a console, and the console built to meet that demand."

While it should come as no surprise given how Microsoft has positioned the device since its E3 2016 reveal, the comments come after analyst Michael Patcher claimed it would be “suicide” for the company to price above $399. This could possibly see Scorpio priced more than the Xbox One at launch, which at the time was the company’s most expensive console.

As for India, don't be surprised to see it skip the country altogether. The Xbox One S hasn't made it here yet and Microsoft India doesn't have plans to bring it over any time soon, ensuring you'll have to import it or buy it from the grey market if you want it at launch.
