RBI Deputy Governor Stresses Governance and Transparency in AI Banking Adoption

RBI Deputy Governor Rajeshwar Rao recently addressed the Indian Economic Association conference, expressing reservations about adopting artificial intelligence (AI) in the banking sector. While acknowledging AI's potential for transformation, Rao underscored concerns regarding its potential impacts on productivity, job displacement, and income distribution. He emphasised critical issues such as biases, robustness, data privacy, cybersecurity, and consumer protection inherent in AI applications. Rao particularly highlighted the need for regular fairness audits due to AI inheriting biases from its training data. Furthermore, he outlined ten key aspects crucial for responsible AI deployment in financial institutions. These aspects encompass fairness, transparency, accuracy, consistency, data privacy, explainability, accountability, robustness, monitoring, updating, and human oversight. Rao stressed that prioritising these elements would bolster public trust and ensure the responsible implementation of AI, emphasising the necessity for a supportive regulatory framework and global cooperation to guide AI applications effectively.

Samsung Plans AI-Infused Camera Sensors for 2027 Rollout

Samsung is embarking on a transformative journey in imaging technology by planning to embed AI directly into its camera sensors, an initiative known internally as "Humanoid Sensors." This ambitious project aims to emulate human senses within camera functionalities and is slated for incorporation into devices as early as 2027.
