Billionaire Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communications (RCom) and its subsidiary Global Cloud Xchange (GCX) would invest $80 million (roughly Rs. 500 crores) to set up four data centres in India over the next 12 months.

"We are adding four data centres in the next 12 months as part of our strategy to increase capacity by 40 percent," Bill Barney Chief Executive of Reliance Communications (Enterprise) and GCX said.

This is part of the company's major expansion of its cloud platform, where it sees significant business opportunity. It expects that in the next five years, 25 percent of the company's business would come from cloud services.

RCOM-GCX is the largest provider of cloud computing facilities in India with 11 data centres.

Around 3,210 Indian enterprises, 14,505 global enterprises and 231 Fortune 500 companies in Mumbai have connected through the RCOM/GCX network, the company said.

"We believe that outsourcing and driving of clouds will nestle itself in India over the next decade in a similar way as software development, call centres and BPOs did in the last decade," Barney said.

"This will drive huge growth in the cloud and data centre space across the country," he added. RCom has connected with Amazon, Microsoft, SoftLayer and Google to enable its customers to leverage their services.

India is the fastest growing data market, Barney said.
