With Acer and Lenovo looking to woo PC gamers to buy laptops meant for gaming, Asus isn't far behind. The company this week launched its ROG GL552JX gaming laptop at an event in Delhi, priced at Rs. 80,990.

Sporting an Intel Core i7 processor, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M 4GB graphics chip and a full HD antiglare IPS display, along with a 1TB 7200rpm drive. It seems to be a decent enough piece of kit for those looking to game on the go. There are some extra features such as BatteryBoost for better battery life and Gamefirst III technology to lessen lag.

"With its advanced hardware and gamer centric features, the GL552JX takes care of all your gaming needs on the move. At a price of Rs. 80,990 it is a mainstream gaming laptop targeting audience who want a gaming notebook without spending too much but yet desire for an awe-inspiring gaming experience," said Peter Chang, Regional Head of South Asia and Managing Director for Asus India.

While we're on the fence about Rs. 80,990 being a mainstream price point for a gaming laptop, and that Asus' decision to demo old games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (which runs fine on an entry-level MacBook Air) seemed even more odd. Nonetheless it's heartening to see laptop manufacturers taking gamers more seriously, despite attempts that appear misdirected.
