Technology major HP Wednesday launched its Device-as-a-Service (DaaS) offering in the country, under which it will manage desktops, notebooks and tablets for its clients.

The service, which is also available in Australia and Singapore, will be extended to other countries in the coming months.

"Indian businesses are innovating to serve a vibrant, diverse workforce and are becoming more competitive nationally and globally. The new offering will help them use their PCs like a utility - they pay one price per seat on a monthly basis over a three or four year period," HP President (APAC) Richard Bailey said.

They also get customised services and support from HP like PC configuration and software installation, onsite break-fix, data migration and proactive support, he added.

Customers will also be able to upgrade to the latest HP devices across commercial desktops, notebook PCs and tablets for subsequent contract periods.

The company, which also offers managed print services in India, said the fee for DaaS will depend on the devices and services chosen by the enterprise.

In India, the company has deployed the service at auto major, Maruti Suzuki.

Bailey said the service can be deployed across sectors like healthcare, financial services, manufacturing and education.

"This will also have a significant impact in service lines that need field services," he added.

HP DaaS incorporates services, support and eventual disposal as part of one overall services agreement.

This is different from typical leasing agreements where PC acquisition, setup and maintenance are covered under separate contracts.

"This means that organisations can enjoy more predictable annual costs and greater ease from having to manage just one contract during their entire PC lifecycle," HP India Managing Director Rajiv Srivastava said.

HP will also cover secure and responsible disposal of PCs, a final phase in the PC lifecycle that is often overlooked and risk the leak of sensitive information, he added.
