Microsoft has revealed the names of final editions for its upcoming Windows 8 release. Including the all-new edition for ARM based systems, Windows 8 will be available in four editions - Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, Windows Enterprise and Windows RT.

These editions will differ in terms of features as well as the platform support. Letting go of the Home Premium, Home Basic monikers, Microsoft has made Windows 8 as the standard version and is the default recommendation for normal consumers. However, the techie users as well as technology professionals can opt for Windows 8 Pro, which will include broader set of features including updated Windows Explorer, Task Manager, and better multi-monitor support.

Windows 8 Enterprise will extend 8 Pro to include features like encryption, virtualization, PC management, domain connectivity and new mobility scenarios.

Microsoft is also launching a version of Windows for ARM based systems, which will consume less power and will only be available pre-installed on the devices; so, you can't buy it separately unlike other versions. Windows RT will come pre-bundled with Microsoft Office, but will not be able run any other desktop apps and will also lack the Windows Media Player and other enterprise features present in Windows 8 Pro and Enterprise editions.
