Indians, like many others, are obsessed with the selfie and smartphone makers are only happy to oblige. While some feel this menace should be banned, there's no denying that the trend has given birth to niche market for gadgets and accessories to fulfil your selfie appetite. After our recent outing with the Asus Zenfone Selfie (Review | Pictures), which happened to be a pretty decent phone, we have the second generation of Micromax's offering based on the same theme, the Canvas Selfie 2.

Unlike Asus, Micromax is targeting the cash-strapped individual for whom pouting in front of a lens is almost a religion. At Rs. 5,999, it's one of the cheapest 'selfie' smartphones in the market, but is it worth it? Let's find out.

Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 Summary

The Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 is designed for the selfie enthusiast on a budget. The 5-inch IPS display has a low resolution and viewing angles are a bit poor but colours are rendered well. The quad-core Mediatek SoC does a decent job of handling full-HD videos and Android Lollipop runs well, despite the 1GB of RAM. The phone focuses on taking selfies and for that we have a 5-megapixel camera but sadly, it lacks auto-focus and a flash. Battery life is decent but overall, the Canvas Selfie 2 leaves a lot to be desired at Rs 5,900. Other shortcomings of the phone include the lack of 4G and redundant app stores which can’t be uninstalled.

Best Selfie phone in this price segment till date very crispy and colourfull display. Both Rear and front Camera's are awesome in day light and in night as well. I get this Mobile today in Morning from Flipkart.com. only one con is i faced with the battery backup. Display size, design is great. Camera combination is awesome. Ram and storage is handy. But battery capacity is quite low. Most of the smartphone users are running out of battery. If battery capacity is 2500mAh it may fire the market. Anyway can anyone tell me about the approximate price and when it is available in market. I want to test it.

Great display, but low on battery back-up

Have been using this for a coupe of months now. Good features at a moderate price. But the battery back up is not upto the mark. Phone gets heated up quickly. Display quality is great. Camera performance and picture quality is better than what is expected from a 5MP cam. Overall, satisfactory for this price range.
