Apple has claimed that iOS 10.2.1, which was released by the company last month, has significantly reduced the unexpected shutdowns that were experienced by some iPhone users. As per the company's claims, the unexpected shutdowns have been reduced by up to 80 percent on iPhone 6s devices and by up to 70 percent on iPhone 6 models.

With its software update, Apple has claimed to have largely fixed the issue where the devices would shut down unexpectedly and will require charging ports to power back on, as per statement provided to TechCrunch. As per the company, over half of the active iOS devices have already upgraded to iOS 10.2.1.

"With iOS 10.2.1, Apple made improvements to reduce occurrences of unexpected shutdowns that a small number of users were experiencing with their iPhone. iOS 10.2.1 already has over 50 percent of active iOS devices upgraded and the diagnostic data we've received from upgraders shows that for this small percentage of users experiencing the issue, we're seeing a more than 80 percent reduction in iPhone 6s and over 70 percent reduction on iPhone 6 of devices unexpectedly shutting down," Apple said in a statement to TechCrunch.

Even though the company says that the update has largely fixed the issue for most users, it has still not eliminated it altogether. This is why the company has now added the ability for the devices to restart without being connected to power after shutting down unexpectedly, as per the statement.

"It is important to note that these unexpected shutdowns are not a safety issue, but we understand it can be an inconvenience and wanted to fix the issue as quickly as possible. If a customer has any issues with their device they can contact AppleCare," the company added.

Notably, this is not the same shutdown issue that was reported by some iPhone 6s users last year when the Cupertino-based company had to offer free battery replacement program for the affected devices. Despite not completely solving the issue, the update is likely to get rid of the frustration for a majority of users that can be caused due to an unexpected shutdown of their iPhone.
