A new Chinese smartphone brand is gearing up to launch in India with a Xiaomi-like online-only sales model. Named Coolpad Dazen, the company has appointed former Flipkart executive Varun Sharma as the India CEO.

The Chinese company has also confirmed that it will soon set up R&D centre alongside a manufacturing plant in the country as part of the 'Make in India' campaign.

Coolpad in a press statement claimed that it holds over 6,000 patents including dual-SIM and dual standby. Meanwhile, it claims to have ranked as the top player in the Chinese LTE market with a series of 4G patents. Details about the Coolpad Dazen brand for the Indian market are limited at the moment; though we can expect more details to arrive when launch nears.

Commenting on the announcement, Li Wang, Global Chief Operating Officer, Coolpad Dazen said, "India is the fastest growing online smartphone market in the world and we want to be a leader in this market. We are happy to appoint Varun as the Country head of our India operations who brings with him immense and diverse experience in the consumer and online industry."
