  • McMaster to be Executive Chairman
  • Cyanogen yet to announce new CEO

Cyanogen's Kirt McMaster has reportedly stepped down as CEO of the company, which could be taken as an indication that Cyanogen is indeed still facing tough times. McMaster has taken up the role of Executive Chairman of Cyanogen. Notably, McMaster has updated his LinkedIn profile to reflect the new role taken up by him. Unfortunately, Cyanogen is yet to announce the stepping down of McMaster.

Android Police points out that Cyanogen's official website still lists Kirt McMaster as the CEO of the company. This may mean that an announcement is on the cards and can be made any time.

Back in July, Cyanogen was said to undergo a major revamp where it was also cutting jobs. Several reports suggested that the company conducted layoffs where it asked roughly 30 out of the 136 people to leave - about 20 percent of entire workforce. The biggest impact of the layoffs was on the team behind the Cyanogen OS commercial distribution, and not those involved with the CyanogenMod project.

Confirming reports that Cyanogen slashed almost 20 percent of its entire workforce, McMaster had later written on Twitter, "Really sad we had to let go of some wonderful folks this week. Start-ups and disruption are brutal."

A report last month alleged that Cyanogen reported "inaccurate" user numbers. In 2014, Cyanogen reported that it had around 20 million "tracked" users while this number rose to 25 million by 2015. Notably, the numbers cited were for the CyanogenMod ROM and not Cyanogen OS. Though, an internal document leak claimed that the reported user base was incorrect figures by the company.
