Intex has launched its new Aqua-series smartphone, the Aqua Star 4G, priced at Rs. 6,499. The highlight of the smartphone is the iData Saver feature which is powered by Opera Max, an app developed by Opera. The feature is said to reduce data consumption by up to 50 percent on images, browsing, and streaming. The company touts that the feature especially comes handy when watching image-heavy AV apps such as Instagram and YouTube among others.

Intex is claimed to be the first Indian brand to integrate Opera Max's functionality into its smartphone. To recall, Samsung's Galaxy J2 launched back in September came preloaded with Ultra Data Saving mode powered by Opera Max.

For specifications, the dual-SIM enabled Intex Aqua Star 4G smartphone runs Android 5.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box. It features a 5-inch (720x1280 pixels) HD IPS display and is powered by a 1GHz quad-core MediaTek (MT6735P) processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. It comes with 8GB of inbuilt storage, which is further expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB). It sports an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, while there is a secondary 2-megapixel front-facing camera also on board. On the connectivity front, the Intex Aqua Star 4G offers 3G, GPRS/ EDGE, 4G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Micro-USB, and Bluetooth options. The handset is backed by a 2000mAh battery. The Aqua Star 4G will be available in Black, Grey, and White colours.

Commenting on the launch, Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, Mobile Business Head, Intex Technologies said, "With the massive demand and high usage of smartphones, data consumption has become the most critical aspect for the consumer. Considering this changing behaviour, Intex has partnered with Opera Max to give its tech savvy consumers a built-in data-saving feature to control data consumption and get the maximum out of their data plans."

Nitin Bhandari, Senior Vice President for products at Opera, on the announcement said, "We are extremely delighted to partner with Intex and pleased that they chose our Opera Max compression technology to enhance their users' mobile experience."
