Micromax's YU Brand Announces App Challenge for Indian Developers

Micromax, leaving no stone unturned to promote its new brand, announced the 'Apps for YU' challenge inviting Indian developers to create apps for its upcoming YU brand of smartphones running a custom Cyanogen OS build based on Android.

The company revealed that developers willing to participate in the contest have to register at YUPlayGod forum and submit an app by January 5, 2015. The apps can be under categories such as personalisation, camera, privacy, battery and audio. The company stressed that the apps created can at best be 30-days old. The results will be announced by January 10, 2015.

The company in a statement details, "The submitted apps would be judged by a panel of YU members on the criteria of app idea, code completeness and functionality, UI/UX and memory and optimization."

The best app will be featured on Micromax's new YU smartphone and the grand prize winner will receive Rs. 1,00,000. Further, the top three entries will get YU phones and top ten developers will receive YU merchandise.

If the app gets selected, you stand a chance to see your work go live on the YU device, with full credits to you," the company forumdetailed.

Commenting on the announcement, Micromax Co-Founder, Rahul Sharma, said, "As we usher into our journey towards revolutionising your smartphones, through this challenge we want to call upon the Developer Community to share their vision of reinvention and ingeniousness with us. As a country, we have an immense pool of talent and CyanogenMod serves as an excellent platform to bring that alive."

Micromax last month announced its new YU brand in partnership with Cyanogen and the first handset under the brand is expected to launch in December.

Prior to this, Cyanogen, apart from announcing new Themes app that would act like a store front for Cyanogen OS users, announced a Themes Design Challenge. The competition similar on the lines of 'Apps for YU' challenge invited artists and content creators to submit original theme packs for the Cyanogen OS.
