Nokia 7 Plus is touted to be the first Snapdragon 660 device to receive Android 9.0 Pie.

Nokia 7 Plus will receive Android 9.0 Pie in September, HMD Global confirmed the development at the Nokia 6.1 Plus launch on Tuesday. Notably, the Nokia 7 Plus is among the hand of models that are currently testing the latest Android version under the Beta programme. The handset earlier this week received Android P Developer Preview 5 (Beta 4) that is quite close to the public release of Android 9.0 Pie. Alongside the news about the Android Pie update, HMD Global has released a major update for the Nokia Camera app that brings Google Lens integration and features such as carousel design and Google Motion support. The updated Nokia Camera app is available for download via Google Play.

HMD Global's Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas during his keynote at the Nokia 6.1 Plus launch in New Delhi on Tuesday announced that the Nokia 7 Plus will receive the Android 9.0 Pie update sometime in the first half of September. Sarvikas told the reporters that the Nokia 7 Plus would be the first Snapdragon 660 device to get Android Pie. The fresh announcement comes just days after the Nokia 7 Plus received the Android P Developer Beta 4. It also highlights that the mid-range Nokia handset could emerge among one of the few non-Google devices that will run Android 9.0 Pie next month. Moreover, considering the historical record of HMD Global with respect to the delivery of updates, other Nokia models are likely to receive Android 9.0 Pie soon.

Nokia 7 Plus Review

Launched in February with Android 8.0 Oreo, the Nokia 7 Plus received an update to Android 8.1 Oreo in April. The handset also got 4G LTE support for the second SIM card alongside the May Android security patch in May.

In addition to preparing Android Pie for the Nokia 7 Plus, HMD Global has updated the Nokia Camera app with a bunch of new features. The app has added Google Lens integration to let you leverage Google's machine learning algorithms to identify objects available in your surroundings. There is also Google Motion support that allows you to capture short videos of your moments and share them as looping GIFs or clips. You can also export the short videos captured through Google Motion to use them in the future.
