OnePlus on Monday teased the launch of an upcoming smartphone, possibly the successor to its One flagship, on its Weibo account. Additionally, new rumoured details about the successor of '2014 flagship killer' smartphone, believed to be dubbed OnePlus 2, have surfaced online.

According to Oizoioi, OnePlus announced the launch of new rear covers on Thursday alongside teasing an upcoming device. The company said (via Mydrivers.com), "The theory of evolution applies to all things in the world, including technological devices, so stayed tuned!" The teaser post was accompanied by an image with the tagline, "It's time to evolve."

In other news, Business Insider in a report citing sources familiar with the situation claims that the alleged OnePlus 2 will be "more customisable"; cheaper than other off-contract Android phones, and will pack "surprises in hardware".

The sources suggested that the company is planning to manufacture StyleSwap back covers at the same time when the successor to the One smartphone is expected. The report adds, "OnePlus released a Bamboo-style back cover for its One phone, but discontinued it in September due to manufacturing issues."

The alleged OnePlus 2 is also said to be affordable with a price tag of less than $500 (Rs. 30,900 approximately). The report claims that the company "wants to keep its margins thin" even if it packs major hardware enhancements.

Lastly, the reports suggested that the new OnePlus will come with "surprises in store when it comes to hardware." This could mean that the OnePlus One successor might be pack refreshed processor and other innards. However, details about the specifications on the alleged OnePlus 2 are not available as of now.

On Monday, the OnePlus One was confirmed to launch in India exclusively at Amazon India. In a teaser image posted to Amazon India website, the online retailer said the smartphone is expected to be available in the coming days.
