Technology giant Lenovo Group on Tuesday opened a new R&D and production facility in Wuhan, China, aimed at accelerating growth and driving innovation in products like smartphones and tablets.

The 200,000 sq meters facility has production lines as well as sales operations and an R&D center that expands Lenovo's research and development capabilities for tablets and smartphones at a time when demand for such products is at an all-time high, Lenovo said in a statement.

No financial details were available.

"Opening this facility not only strengthens our in-house manufacturing capability for PC Plus products, but it also helps us drive even greater speed and efficiency, cost savings and innovation so we can continue our rapid growth in the mobile device market," Lenovo Chairman and CEO Yang Yuanqing said.

The facility is an important addition to Lenovo's global supply chain and by integrating product R&D, production and sales operations in a single location, this site strengthens our core competitiveness, he added.

"This will allow us to bring more innovative products to market even faster. We can respond more quickly to market trends, unleash even more waves of high-quality, innovative products to meet customer demand, and capture even more growth in tablets and smartphones," he said.
