HTC has launched its native collaborative video editing app, Zoe, for select Android smartphones via Google Play. The app was previously a HTC smartphone exclusive, and has been launched in beta mode.

"Today, we are very excited to announce the formation of HTC Creative Labs, HTC's internal innovation engine, along with the release of a brand new application for Android 4.4 users called Zoe-a beautifully designed, collaborative video editing application that lets you create, share and remix professional-quality highlight videos with your friends," stated the HTC blog post.

The HTC Zoe app has been made by HTC Creative Labs, the team responsible for the firm's latest Sense 6 UI, Blinkfeed app and other services.

HTC intends to release the non-beta version of the Zoe app, version 1.0, later this year with certain improvements. "Please note that Zoe (Beta) is pre-release software. If you're not comfortable running into bugs and the inevitable hiccups that come with early software, we strongly suggest waiting for Zoe to reach version 1.0 later this year," added the blog post.

The blog states that users who have HTC, Samsung, LG (including Nexus 5 (Review | Pictures) smartphones running Android 4.4 KitKat can download it from Google Play.

HTC Zoe is an app that enables users to create a video and take images at the same time. Users can edit videos, add custom soundtracks and share it with friends in the Zoe community. Users can also access their friends' highlight videos, remix and share them.

Before the introduction of HTC Zoe app on Google Play, HTC had brought some of its other native apps to the app store in March, however, these apps - HTC Service Pack, SenseTV, Guide, and Gallery - were meant only for HTC devices, and were speculated to be a simpler way for HTC to push out individual updates for these apps, rather than firmware updates across a wide variety of devices. Notably, the HTC BlinkFeed app was spotted listed on Google Play along with the above mentioned apps, however, HTC later in March announced it would the app to other Android devices - this has not yet happened though.
