TaxiForSure Not Authorised to Operate, Says Delhi Government

The Delhi government on Wednesday said the operation of TaxiForSure was illegal and strict action will be taken against it, days after a woman alleged that a driver of the app-based company indulged in an obscene act while driving her to Faridabad from South Delhi.

The government said that it was not against app-based taxi services in the national capital but it will not compromise on women safety. Delhi government said that it has taken a serious view of the reported incident.

"The government is not against app-based taxi services in the national capital but it will not compromise on women safety, which is its top priority," it said.

The woman detailed her ordeal of last week on social networking sites Facebook and Twitter on July 3.

"TaxiForSure has not been authorised by the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi and hence its operations are illegal," government said in its statement.

The government will take strict action, which is currently being finalised by the department of transport.

"Delhi government is committed towards safety of women and no act which brings shame to the entire national capital will be allowed to go unpunished," it said.

Meanwhile, Delhi High Court on Wednesday set aside an order of the city government, by which Uber's application for licence to ply in the national capital was rejected, and asked the transport department to impose conditions on the company to operate.

Reacting to it Delhi government said it will respond to the order of the High Court about app-based taxi services after studying the details of the order.
