Twitter has announced that it is shutting down Twitter Music - a service for people to find music they like and tweet songs from iTunes, Spotify and Rdio - on 18 April 2014.

Twitter confirmed the news on the micro-blogging site on Friday, and said, "Later this afternoon (21 March), we will be removing Twitter #music from the App Store. If you have the app, it will continue to work until April 18."

The San Francisco-based company revealed that users already using the app on iOS devices can continue to use it until 18 April. Notably, Twitter Music was officially unveiled on 18 April 2013.

The service used information from Twitter chatter to find popular tracks as well as new artists. Users who follow musicians could see what artists those musicians follow and listen to songs by them.

Further, Twitter said, "We continue to experiment with new ways to bring you great content based on the music activity we see every day on Twitter."

In February 2014, Posterous, a blogging service known for its simplicity and was acquired by Twitter back in March 2013, announced that it would be shutting down its services on 30 April 2014.

Earlier on Monday, a report suggested that Twitter is testing a new feature in its iOS app that allowed users to check how many people saw their tweet. The report suggested that some users claim their Twitter iOS app showed the number of views a tweet had received below the post.

The report claimed that this is the first time Twitter has rolled out such a feature, very reminiscent of 'likes' on Facebook. As of now, there is no word from the social giant of when the tweet view counts feature will be officially rolled out.

Twitter on its eighth birthday rolled out a 'first tweet' tool that allowed users to discover the first tweet of any Twitter user.
