It took me many days to come to a conclusion in deciding my pick. And, surprisingly, yesterday, Times of India listed top 10 laptops under 40k, and this one stood seventh in that list. I am so happy to be an owner of this superb device. This is a flawless device, crafted and encased with perfection. As this is offering too much for such a price, you can expect some letdowns.
Letdowns:
If you are a HP owner and moving to Asus, then for you I have a bad news. The screen resolution will cause headache in the beginning few days, later, your eyes will adopt it. It is because, HP's screen resolution is very eye friendly, while Asus is little harsh on eyes. Never mind, even after few months, my eyes are unaffected.
Second letdown is the keypad, as the keypad does not have any indicator or light for Caps and Num lock. If you are little too much into your work, then you will forget whether Caps is on or not, and trust me its a petty issue, but very irritating
Third letdown, plastic at the base won't impress you much, plus the CD drive is brittle, this won't impress you. Don't worry, it is brittle, but not that bad. However, the processing of disc is quite fast.
Fouth letdown, Speakers is at the bottom, which means, if you are on your bed with lappy, then the mattress may block the sound. Sound is good, not great. The position of speakers needs to be changed.
Fifth letdown, I personally feel that the Charging adapter is little delicate. Plus the second half of adapter wire is quite thin.
Positives:
Super fast boot- I use windows 8 Pro(Unregistered), and boot is super fast. It hardly take seconds to start up the lappy.
TrackPad- Never heats up, plus very user friendly. Very impressive, as it also remembers your trackpad movements.
Battery- Its good, not expected it to perform this way. Fast charging, good backup. Also, company claims minimum charging life for the battery(Don't remember the figure).
Warranty- 24 months warranty. Yes, you read it right, 2 years warranty, which includes Adapter as well. I heard no other brand extending warranty benefit for adapter as well.
Performance- I have played top notch games, with few lags, but for hours. COD Advanced Warfare fails terribly. 2GB graphics card is of good help, but as its not an Alienware, don't expect it to be the one.
Quality- High quality plastic used for the upper body, screen is good, finished product.
Overall, it will impress you, as it is a complete laptop for a price.
Why you should buy it??
Because it is not overpriced like Hp, Lenovo and Dell. All these three top brands provides extended warranty, but for a price. And the same is free with Asus, for such an attractive price. Plus you get everything you desire to be in a laptop.
Asus provides HDMI Port, VGA port, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, CD/DVD writer, MMC port.
What can be done to raise its standard?
Indicators for Caps and Num lock, and Laptop start button.
Backlit keypad.
Change of speaker position
Addition of RAM, current 4GB is good, not great.
Power indicator in adapter's charging nozel.
Good quality plastic for bottom part.
Detachable battery without screws.
Suggestion to buyers:
Blindly go for Asus A555LF models with pre installed Windows only. I bought one with DOS, which I now regret, as original windows carries lot more benefits. Asus is a good brand, if your budget is under 40k, this one is for you. Asus provides you almost everything under this price. Before buying, do consider the compromises I mentioned.
