About Cinderella Movie (1950)

Cinderella (Ilene Woods) has been ill-treated by her step-mother Lady Tremaine (Eleanor Audley) — who has reduced her to an overburdened maid swinging between chores — ever since her father died.

Her stepsisters Anastasia (Lucille Bliss) and Drizella (Rhoda Williams) add to her woes by mocking, demoralising, and humiliating her — besides, of course endlessly adding to her workload.

Meanwhile, the king announces a royal ball open to all suitable maidens to find the perfect bride for his son, Prince Charming (William Edward Phipps).

Naturally, Tremaine overburdens Cinderella with chores to prevent her from attending the ball, and increases the chances of her daughters being chosen by the prince, instead.

A fairy Godmother (Verna Felton) and her animal friends come to Cinderella’s rescue, by turning her into a charioted princess with a gorgeous gown and dazzling slippers.

But the fairy Godmother has one condition — Cinderella should be back home by midnight or else the magic will be reversed.

However, fate might have other things in store for the damsel.

The fantasy musical drama is based on French author Charles Perrault’s 1697 version of the traditional folk tale of the same name.

Given the monumental success of the film, Disney studio re-released Cinderella in theatres six times: in 1957, 1965, 1973, 1981, 1987, and 2013.
