The Blood of Dawnwalker, the upcoming RPG from developer Rebel Wolves, will get a 60fps performance mode patch on consoles at launch. The studio confirmed the performance mode update on Monday after initially announcing that the game would launch without a 60fps mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles.

Rebel Wolves and publisher Bandai Namco earlier announced that The Blood of Dawnwalker would offer two graphics modes on PS5 and Xbox Series X. The game's Quality mode would target 30fps, while the Balanced mode would target 40fps — both at dynamic 4K resolution. The developer did not confirm a performance mode targeting 60fps on consoles, even on the more powerful PS5 Pro.

Bandai Namco also released console gameplay footage from the RPG, comparing the two graphics modes across PS5 Pro, PS5, and Xbox Series X consoles.

The announcement received a backlash from console users expecting a 60fps mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X. Now, Rebel Wolves has confirmed that a 60fps mode is in the works and will be available through a day one update.

“On Friday, we answered your questions about console performance with what we knew we could confidently deliver at launch,” the developer said in its announcement on Monday.

“Performance Mode was already in the works, but it was still being tested. We simply weren't ready to promise it yet.

“We heard your feedback. It was clear how much this mattered to many of you, so we focused on finishing the next round of tests. Those results gave us the confidence we needed to confirm Performance Mode for Day 1.”

The Blood of Dawnwalker will now launch with three graphics modes on PS5 Pro, PS5, and Xbox Series X: Performance, targeting 60fps; Balanced, targeting 40fps; and Quality, targeting 30fps. On PS5 Pro, the game will also come with enhanced visual quality. On the lower-end Xbox Series S, the RPG will run at 30fps.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is set to launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X on September 3. Rebel Wolves is a new studio set up by several former CD Projekt Red employees, including Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who served as game director on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Tomaszkiewicz is the director of The Blood of Dawnwalker, as well.
