Popular enterprise messaging service Slack has added a feature that will reduce the number of times you need to check email. That shouldn't come as a surprise for a service that many companies now use as a replacement for traditional internal communication channels, but in this case - it is. Slack has added email integration.

Yes, you can now configure Slack to show emails directly in various channels. Like most Slack integrations, configuring this one is a simple process. Head to the Integrations page on Slack and select email to set it up.

The only catch is that this feature isn't available on the free plan. If your company is on the paid tiers of Slack, then you can start using this feature. It has the added advantage of creating a searchable index of all your emails within Slack. The emails show up as cards with the sender and the subject. You can click to expand the card and reveal the full contents of the email.

Slack says that users can send emails to relevant channels, such as sending bug reports to a channel dedicated for the purpose. Similarly, reader feedback email could be sent to a specific channel, making it easy for people to sort through emails.

The company says in its blog post that this is one way to add service integrations to Slack. "If there's a service you've used for years and always wished they integrated into Slack, chances are you could get most of what you want today by giving them a channel-specific secret email address so that the email they already send you arrives in the desired channel," the post reads.
