Dell India has attained the top position in the domestic PC market with a 23.1 percent market share across segments in the first quarter of the current calendar year.

"Our leadership and sustained growth has been possible with support from our partner and distributor networks and our rapidly expanding retail presence," Dell India Executive Director P Krishnakumar said in a release.

"Today, we are able to provide our customers with the power to choose their desired device as well as how they want to buy from Dell and across price bands," he added.

With 33.1 percent share, Dell is also the top notebook brand in the country, according to an International Data Corporation report.

This leadership position reiterates Dell's belief in the PC business and follows the growth trajectory built over the last few quarters in commercial and consumer segments, the report added.

Dell showed consistent growth over the last few quarters in the consumer & small business segments to successfully capture the top spot in Q1 with 21.4 percent share. Dell also leads the small business segment with an overall share of 26.2 percent (#1 in notebooks with 61 percent and desktops with 15.4 percent).

Dell has been actively increasing its consumer retail presence. It launched its 200th Dell exclusive store last month.

The company, which recently went private, is aggressively focussing on increasing penetration across all segments and is reaching out to the small business and commercial segments with products and solutions through its strong channel and distribution network.

"Our expanded partner network and new distribution engagement has been a significant contributor to this success.

We will continue to demonstrate our commitment to the channel, keeping our customer's technology needs at the core of everything we do," Dell India Director Indrajit Belgundi said.
