Apple has acknowledged that a glitch in iOS 7 is preventing certain users from sending iMessages and has said that the issue will be addressed in an upcoming software update.

Users have taken to Twitter and Apple's own support community to express their frustration about an issue where iMessages are constantly stuck in 'Sending' state and never get delivered. Websites like Apple Insider have suggested a temporary fix that seems to work for most users:

  • Disable iMessage in Settings -> Messages
  • Reset the iPhone's Network Settings under Settings -> General -> Reset
  • Reenable iMessage

Apple has not only acknowledged the problem, but in a statement to The Wall Street Journal's Digits also confirmed that the issue will be addressed in a forthcoming software update. Here is the statement in full:

We are aware of an issue that affects a fraction of a percent of our iMessage users, and we will have a fix available in an upcoming software update. In the meantime, we encourage any users having problems to reference our troubleshooting documents or contact AppleCare to help resolve their issue. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes impacted users.

Apple released iOS 7 on September 18, in what is the biggest overhaul to its mobile operating system since the original iPhone. The ride so far has been anything but smooth, with users discovering bugs that could allow anyone to make calls from a locked iPhone or bypass the passcode to access photos. Apple released iOS 7.0.2 update late in September to address these and other issues.
