Pune-based Byond Tech had launched a 6-inch dual-SIM smartphone-tablet hybrid in the country in December last year. The company has now introduced another device in the category. Priced at Rs. 14,999, the Byond Phablet PII is now available with online retailers like Flipkart and also across India through multiple dealers and distributors.

A second smartphone-tablet hybrid from the company, the Phablet P II sports a 5.7-inch multi-touch HD IPS capacitive display with a 1280x720 pixel resolution running on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean. The device features an 8-megapixel rear camera and a front facing camera for video calling as well.

Under the hood, the Phablet PII is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor alongside 1GB RAM. There is 4GB of internal storage that can be expanded by an additional 32GB via microSD. It comes with a 2,500 mAh battery claiming 100 hours of stand-by time.

The dual-SIM (GSM+GSM, single active, 3G-enabled) device features connectivity options like Wi-Fi, 3G, GPS and Bluetooth amongst an array of other sensors and social media apps like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Skype.

The specs of the Phablet PII seem similar to its elder sibling the Phablet PIII, which boasts a huge 6-inch display. While camera, processor, RAM and storage specs remain the same, the Phablet PII has been upgraded to Android Jelly Bean (v4.1.1).

As a device manufacturer, Byond seems to be expanding quite aggressively into multiple device domains. Initially, the company started out with tablets with its Mi-Book Series priced between Rs. 4,300 and Rs. 11,000 and then entered the smartphone and phablet arena as well. This isn't surprising, considering the company announced its plans to target a Rs. 400 crore turnover from phones and tablets in 2013-14.

Byond recently launched the B63 dual-SIM Android 4.1 smartphone for Rs. 12,499, the B51 and B54 dual-SIM Android 2.3 smartphones priced at Rs. 4,999 and Rs. 5,799 respectively. The latest addition to the company's smartphone cadre is the B66 sporting a 5.0-inch display priced at Rs.11,499.
