HTC on Wednesday reportedly started rolling out an OTA firmware update to the HTC One M9 which improves the camera performance and the battery life of the smartphone.

The update for the company's flagship smartphone is reaching out to users in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, reports AnandTech. While the new firmware keeps the smartphone limited to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, it changes the device's software version to 1.40.401.5. It is worth mentioning that the update is said to have rolled out to Taiwanese users couple of weeks ago. The report further states that it should reach North America later this month.

The changelog for the update lists the camera of the One M9 to now feature "greater auto-exposure balance" to improve the overexposure in the images, making them look less desaturated. The latest firmware also reduces the noise and blur during a low light shot and reduces the yellow/ green hue when images are shot in extreme lighting conditions.

As for the battery life, the HTC One M9 firmware update is said to reduce the power consumption of heavy applications like YouTube and Facebook. In addition, the update also brings a 'Smart charging thermal improvement'.

The Taiwanese tech firm last month announced the Android M update for HTC One M9 and One M9+. To recall, Google at its eighth I/O annual developers' conference revealed the next version of Android operating system dubbed Android M. HTC in April confirmed that the Android 5.1 Lollipop update would start rolling out to the 2014 flagship, One (M8) in August, complete with Sense 7 UI introduced with the HTC One M9.
