Taiwanese handset maker HTC had promised Android Oreo update for its flagship, the U11, earlier this year. The company has started rolling out the update to HTC U11 units though it seems to be limited to Taiwan units. The update has started rolling out to users in Taiwanese over-the-air.

Some of the users shared screenshot on Twitter showing the update notification on their HTC U11 units. The update notification confirms Android 8.0 Oreo update with software patch 2.31.709.1 and is over 1GB in size. The update notification on HTC U11 also confirms addition of VoWifi service though it is currently limited to Chunghwa Telecom subscribers in Taiwan. Android Central in a series of screenshots has shown that the new Oreo update for the HTC U11 doesn't change a lot of elements drastically. The new update also bumps the security patch to November month. The HTC U11 was launched running Android 7.1 Nougat with the company's HTC Sense skin on top.

We can expect HTC to start rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo to U11's global units soon. For the uninitiated, Google's latest mobile operating system Android 8.0 Oreo brings faster boot times, notification dots, auto fill and smart text selection, settings redesigned, revamped Google Now, picture in picture mode, and Google Play music notifications.

HTC launched its U11 smartphone in India at a price of Rs. 51,990 (MOP). The highlight feature of the U11 is the Edge Sense feature that allows users to perform various functions with the handset by simply squeezing it from the sides.

Coming to specifications, it sports a 5.5-inch Quad HD Super LCD display and is powered by a 2.45GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC coupled with 6GB of RAM. It packs 128GB of built-in storage, which is expandable via microSD card (up to 2TB). It sports a 12-megapixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, dual-LED flash, slow-motion, and 4K video recording. At the front, there's a 16-megapixel camera. It packs a 3000mAh battery.
